Privacy policy
Sunset Recorder is a personal service operated by Michal Nowak. It records a configured UniFi Protect camera around sunset, keeps the recordings on a Raspberry Pi, and can upload the full-quality recording to the operator’s YouTube channel.
Camera footage and recording metadata
The service processes the video and any audio present in the selected camera stream. It also stores operational metadata such as planned and actual recording times, source and processing details, and upload status. These files, metadata, and service logs are stored locally on the Raspberry Pi. The current retention setting keeps them indefinitely; the operator can change that setting.
The original recording is preserved separately from any lightweight or timelapse versions. Lightweight and timelapse files are generated locally. The lightweight version is not uploaded by default.
YouTube and Google authorization
When enabled, the service sends the full-quality recording to YouTube using the YouTube Data API and the operator’s authorization. It requests private visibility for each upload. YouTube processes the video under its own terms and privacy practices. The operator’s OAuth refresh token is stored in a permission-restricted file on the Raspberry Pi and is used only to obtain access tokens for uploads. The information website does not receive the token or video files.
The operator can revoke the service’s Google access in their Google Account security settings and can manage or delete uploaded videos in YouTube Studio.
Information website and hosting
This website is a static information site. It has no forms, account sign-in, analytics, or advertising. Cloudflare hosts the pages and may process standard request information, such as IP address, browser details, and requested page, to deliver and protect the site.
Sharing and contact
Camera footage is sent to YouTube only as described above. It is not sent to this website. The operator does not sell personal information or use Google user data for advertising.
